My experience with the Tula Pink Rotary Cutter

I was so excited to get the Tula Pink rotary cuter for Christmas, it felt nice and weighty but comfortable in my hand, and like a good quality product. However, things changed a few months in. I made a vlog about my experience with the cutter (and the shop it was purchased from – the wonderful Fiona at Tangled Blossoms Design). Has anyone else experienced similar issues?

Dang, not noticed the problem but I’ve barely used it. Bought it because I liked the look but now will probably use it gingerly until it stops to function. Disappointing! Regarding the replacement cutter, the ergonomic design of this one or the Olfa is defeated if one squeezes to hold it the blade open while cutting. If you squeeze-lock in one motion, cut, then push the button to cause the spring action to retract the blade for safety as you set it down on the table, it takes just a few seconds more to use. Relaxes the tendons on the back of your fingers and saves them from stress and overuse. Been using this manner of cutting for 15 years or so, saw something on tv about how this was how the cutter was designed. I am used to it but it doesn’t take long to develop the habit.

As a retired quilting instructor and author, I know Tula would be very interested hearing your problems with her cutter so she can deal with the manufacturer appropriately. She is the one who would have the most direct influence with them as I’m sure they would want to keep her business. Let us know how this turns out, please.

Just got my Tula Pink cutter a few weeks ago and loving it for the same reasons you did (left handed and heavyweight). No problems yet, but wondering if you, or the sewing store Fiona) ever went any further with this (i.e. to Tula Pink).

I just had the same thing happen with the blade guard on mine which I’ve had less than a year – I’ve contacted the shop I bought it from then I thought I’d google whether anyone else had the problem and found your video. Not sure that I want a replacement now! It’s such a shame because it’s the best designed handle. 🙁

Searching for those with similar issues- the plastic clip that holds onto the bolt with the blade just wore out on mine, less than a year old! So disappointed.
