Recently, I’ve been working on a project (to be shared soon) that I’ve not been able to blog or Instagram about, but it’s been that much of a long slog, that it looks like I’ve been doing nothing for the last month or two, no new bags made, no new videos on my YouTube channel, nothing!
However, this is done now, and it was the last of my scheduled paid work. I like paid work (don’t we all!) because it allows me to keep money in the UK to pay my student loan, especially since the exchange rate is so poor right now. As I mentioned on a past post, Popular Patchwork has finished now sadly, and I do have a project (Wildflowers) that will eventually be used in British Patchwork and Quilting instead.
Still, I’m now at an interesting point I’ve not had for about 5 years. What do I do now?!
It’s quite freeing. On one hand, there’s illustrator work I need to do to digitize my animal patterns ready for the release of Paint by Number Quilts as expansions to the book, and potentially a free pattern for a book launch party. I have WIPs that are years old. I have two months and two bonus patterns to catch up on for the Bag of the Month club. I also have a new plan for a pictorial blue jay quilt that I want to film a time lapse of.
Commissions gave me direction and purpose, and now I don’t have that, I’m all over the place, I don’t know where to start.
This post is intended for me to organise myself. Prioritise.
- I’m going to make the Holey Mayole bag from the Bag of the Month Club. This was last month’s pattern. It is cut out and interfaced. Ready for stitching.
- I’m going to make a NCW finishing video for my class. The class was over three weeks ago and I promised I would share how I finished my class sample, but the project came first. Sorry class.
- I want to finish my Canada quilt, the one that was supposed to be for Canada 150, and now hopefully will be in time for Canada 151. I’ll make a video of how to make a maple leaf block and give away the pattern for free, just in case others out there have those cool Hoffman fabrics (top of the post) or indeed any other feature fabric or panels that would work.
There are lots of other things to do, but I get overwhelmed if I look too far ahead. I have another Finish Along item besides the Canada Quilt, there’t the June Bag of the Month wallet, there’s the Denver backpack free pattern from the club too, and I have a couple of Stargazers for the clutch pattern hack cut out and sloppily on my cutting table. I also want to make this amazing quilt for my office wall, but half the dimensions.
