Francoise – part 1
May I introduce you to my new (almost finished) Francoise dress?
The pattern is Francoise by Tilly and the Buttons, and I submitted it 10 minutes before the deadline for the competition last night. I am exhausted and I need to adjust the back. I also need an invisible zip foot and to redo the zip again as I’m not happy with it. The bust area is a weird shape but it’s not half as bad as it was at 10pm last night when I was getting frustrated with the thing. I need to consider my options for making it a bit less weird.
The main part of the dress was supposed to be made in the diagonal stripe print from S’more Love by the Comstocks, so on discovering I was short on time (i.e. I cut the pattern pieces out yesterday) I substituted in this vintage bed linen cotton. The sleeves are Jersey, just because I wanted to try it! I love the sleeves.
Buy the pattern for yourself HERE!
I’ll have more on this when I get some better photos and have made the adjustments- in the rush we hadn’t noticed that the camera was set to Macro.
Also only one Christmas item left now! I finished off the cushion for my MIL yesterday too, with a touch of piping and a standard envelope back.
AOB – I need to announce the giveaway winner! I added the extra entry comments from my mini quilt post to the end of the giveaway comments, which meant there were a total of 434 entries!
And the winner is… Robyn!
Congratulations!

Love the solid contrasts of the collar and sleeves with the vintage floral. You can insert a invisible zip with a normal zip foot if you press the coils flat and move the needle. I don’t like the zip foot that comes as standard with the Husqvarna Sappphire (either for normal or concealed zips) – I much prefer the narrow zip foot that was standard on the older Husqvarnas. Might be worthwhile having a look on an auction site as they fit all models (hint, hint).

Ooh love how that looks! I used my normal zip foot for invisible zips read a tute somewhere.

I’m impressed you finished, and so quickly! That is some sewing!
Okay, I went over and looked at the original dress and then yours, trying to figure out why those darts in the bustling were such a challenge (your post on IG). I think overall the upper bodice portion of *your* dress is a size bigger than how they envisioned it fitting. I compared the collar area, the armhole area and the bust dart area (in fact their lower dart goes right to the bust point — which is not how I would prefer it). But all in all, I think sometimes indie patterns can have fitting problems that aren’t apparent until the last moment, and then we go crazy trying to make their “problem” fit our shape and it’s often not us. . . but the pattern. It looks like this pattern was made to be quite snug fitting, which may or may not be comfortable. I think I prefer the ease you have, frankly.
Again, a hearty congratulations on finishing up a complex dress!
