Really Random Thursday Puppy Special
Thanks for bearing with me whilst I pimped my services yesterday- it actually resulted in a couple of jobs so thank you those people, you know who you are! Also thank you to Sarah as I got some more squares in the post! I wonder if there will be more today?
I now know which Pointer puppy is ours and I cannot wait to get him home, just over two weeks to go. Here he is!
And the whole litter…
He will look like his mum when he’s older…
picture shamelessly nicked from indiciumpointers.org
At the minute I’ve nicknamed him dipstick because of his tail. It’s black with a very definitely marked white tip. I want to call him Spencer, Alex I think is preferring Hector at the minute. Anyone remember Hector’s House? That’s why.
Another name in the hat is Bosworth but I think this is a bit too posh sounding, even if it shortens to the not-very-posh Boz.

On a not-so-random-Thursday topic, inspiration has struck for devising an applique BOM which can be done either by hand turning, by machine fusible applique or with my favourite method, turned edge machine applique. The blocks I have started drawing are not over complicated and will be 12″ square and there will be 12 of them, keeping with the usual BOM tradition. There will be different stylised flowers on a theme of English Country Garden (Summer is coming!). I see so many wonderful scrappy and contemporary applique quilts right now, a lot of them being made by Australian quilters (I’m thinking Sarah Fielke and Jen Kingwell style), and I feel we could get in on the action a little. Any tentative participants? 🙂 Full instructions will be provided here on the blog as well as suggestions for background piecing with block one (Daisy), I’ll make the templates and fabric selection guide available as a Craftsy free download for that month.
- P.S. Is high volume a thing like low volume is? What are almost black/ grey/ navy fabrics collectively called?

I’m drawn to Boz for some reason. Congrats on the new pup! And on the navy/black/grey, I’m thinking darks. My understand of high volume is that they are saturated colours, like bright reds, fuchsia, bold oranges, etc.

He’s gorgeous! so exciting to be getting a new pup. Have fun puppy proofing everything (watch our for the wireless router – ours got eaten twice!)

I totally scared of applique so I would LOVE to do a friendly BOM project to move past that fear.
And I think the opposite of low volume color is saturated color. (at least in house paint it is).
Such a great puppy! I kinda like the name Bosworth. I can picture it said in a sarcastic posh accent when he’s licking mud off his privates or falls asleep in his food dish.

He is too cute for words. And personally, I would stick with Dipstick. I love it.

Dipstick is pretty cute.

I love him! So cute! I like the name Spencer. This dogs are great. You could also give him a sporty name since I bet he’ll love to play ball.

Aww I love pointers, he’s gorgeous!

Love the new puppy, Linas bear is called Spencer so quite frankly i’m sick of hearing Spencers opinion, although it’s a cute name for a dog!

Sir Spencer Dipstick! Haha! He is too sweet! I hate applique, might have to join the BOM!

What a cute little fellow he is! He reminds me of our Teddy, who is now a whopping 85+ pounder. We both remember when I used to hold him on my lap, and I think we both secretly wish I could still do that. 🙂
Lots of fun ahead of you.

Oooh, isn’t he going to be a big boy! My mother always said she named things after imagining them being yelled out a Glasgow tenement window if that helps…

My son says that if your dog will grow up to look like his mom, he can surely have a posh name as he will look pretty posh – so he likes Bosworth. I guess Spot is not on?

He is very cute and from the photo’s looks as if he will be quite regal as a grown up.
As for the fabrics, well, I’ve just learned something from reading SarahAnne’s comment! When I first started quilting, there was only traditional style and fabrics were referred to as light-medium-dark. Someone recently commented on the saturated colours of my spider web quilt and I didn’t know what they meant – now I do – the fabrics are light and dark in value; so in modern terms that would be low volume and saturated colours! Thanks Kerry for bring up the question and thanks SarahAnne for teaching me something new today 🙂

I had a friend named Bozzie – it fit him perfectly and he was as non-posh (plumber crack!) as they come. Your pup is just adorable and I can’t wait for a million photos watching him grow. That little wrinkly brow would melt any heart.

oh how cute is he! I didn’t realise he was a greyhound at first (I’m not completely sure he is a greyhound now actually…). I’m looking forward to meeting him (haven’t answered your email yet, but that’s the option I’m going for, though it won’t be til end April or beginning of May and I will smell of rabbits). I like the name Bosworth. I see you tend to go for last names for doggies which is quite cool. Mind you, Colin is already taken so you can’t call him that.
